New comic book Wednesday! Did anyone get anything good? :3
Rory Kinnear to play the new Doctor? Possibly… While some sources have reported that Kinnear has indeed been offered the role, they are failing to report that he has not accepted that offer. There is even a possibility that Kinnear hasn’t been offered the role at all. Liz Buckley, a friend of Rory’s family, says that “everything in the papers about Rory Kinnear being asked to be the new Doctor is 100% bollocks, just so you know. He’s a bit sick of it.”
Liz calls these rumors a “PR smokescreen,” saying that the producers at Dr. Who are simply trying to create a distraction while they look for the REAL next Doctor. But then on the other hand… Could Liz just be trying to throw people off the trail of the new Doctor? Until someone accepts the role, we will just have to see!
I for one would love to see someone incredibly different play the Doctor! Many have said that it is time for a female Doctor, or a least a ginger for goodness sakes! Helen Mirren at one point stated that she would love to be the new Doctor, but Moffat has already stepped forward saying that he wants to the Doctor to be a fairly unknown actor. He says that with a famous actor, like Helen Mirren, all the previous roles they played come to mind. He wants someone that IS the Doctor, not someone who was once this and once that and now is a Doctor…
I for one think Rory would be fine, but I truly hope Moffat steps away from what he is comfortable with. Sadly, until we know for SURE who accepts the role, we all know that Moffat will keep us guessing and wondering. He seems to really enjoy playing mind game with people. ;)
